Barry Reports – December

So, hear goes my second effort at updating everyone on the Long Sutton Mens’ Shed:

We are progressing with the structural work. The guys are building stud walling for us to separate the workshop areas from the storage, tool store, kitchen and ‘lounge’ area.

I like to think the workshops will be up and running by Spring next year.

This might lead you to think the ‘shed’ is all about working.

Not at all.

We are happy for guys to simply come along, socialize with the others and generally relax with a cuppa.

Not a bad deal for £10.00 a year plus the odd pound towards teas etc.

We try not to be too officious but want everyone to have a say in the way the ‘shed’ works so, we have a regular group meeting about every 3 months and a small committee that meets monthly to oversee finance etc.

Although we tend to cater for the slightly older generation, our membership is open to all men over 18 years (this for insurance purposes and to meet government requirements.

We would welcome anyone and especially men with practical skills that we might avail ourselves.

Fortunately we have a wealth of experienced guys and are able to tackle most tasks that come our way. However, we aim to broaden our scope and are keen to consider new, challenging projects as they arise.

We are currently looking for an appropriate size, second hand wood burning stove as we have a regular supply of scrap wood. (Any ideas welcome).

At the moment, we are preparing for a Xmas meal to celebrate our progress and I shall try to report on that next month. We are also helping EELS (Events and Entertainments in Long Sutton) to prepare the annual Santas’ grotto at the Silverwood Centre and expect to be integral in the running of this.

Wishing you a great and peaceful Xmas and a Happy New Year.

From all at the Long Sutton Mens’ Shed
